Rental and assembly of pressurized habitats to enable hot work on an offshore production platform, in the oil and gas segment.
Context
Offshore, with the production unit in full operation, structural reinforcement work was carried out for the construction of a production module. An activity traditionally performed at a shipyard was now executed directly on the offshore platform, with no need to interrupt production and without compromising the unit’s safety.
This was made possible by the pressurized habitat.
Execution
17 habitats were assembled, totaling 810 m² of installed material, with a team of three professionals responsible for the rental and assembly of the structures. The scale of the operation, carried out in an offshore environment with the platform in full operation, demonstrates the capacity of the pressurized habitat to enable large-scale interventions under conditions that would previously have required a production shutdown or relocation to a shipyard.
The role of the pressurized habitat
On offshore platforms, the presence of flammable gases and vapors makes any hot work, such as welding, cutting, and grinding, a high-risk activity in classified areas. The pressurized habitat addresses this challenge by creating a positive-pressure clean air environment around the work point, combining spark containment and isolation from the external atmosphere. The result is a safety barrier that allows hot work to be carried out to a high standard of control, without shutting down the platform’s operations.
