Maintenance stop on an offshore drillship – Oil & Gas

Service performed
Surface treatment and industrial painting with anticorrosive coating on drillship tanks, in the offshore oil and gas segment.

Context
Priner completed a maintenance stop on the drillship NS38, operated by Etesco, carrying out surface treatment and painting on 36 tanks over 51 days. The final scope reached approximately 9,000 m², around 3,000 m² above the initial plan, delivered on schedule and to a quality standard above the recommended level.

Technical challenges
The entire scope was executed in confined spaces — environments not designed for human occupancy, with restricted access, low lighting, and challenges related to air quality. The coating applied was N-2912 Type III paint, composed of glass flakes, which required strict control of environmental and operational conditions throughout the application: relative humidity limited to 85%, flash-rust acceptable only at the light level, and a pot life of up to 45 minutes at 23°C.

Planning and execution
Throughout the project, the team developed new resource and equipment strategies to ensure that scaffold assembly always stayed ahead of the painting stage in the schedule, preventing any impact on the tank delivery deadlines. The ability to adapt and the effectiveness of the planning were decisive in absorbing the additional scope without compromising the original timeline.

Safety
The standout achievement of this project was zero accidents. Over 62,810 hours were worked in confined spaces, with all safety measures applied to mitigate the risks inherent to these environments.
