Initial Problem
Due to the continuous raising of tailings dams and changes in regulatory standards, underground drainage galleries became obsolete and represented structural weak points.
Proposed Solution
The proposed solution included a robotic inspection to detect structural issues, installation of a ventilation system to allow safe worker access, removal of 125 m³ of ore from inside the gallery to enable complete sealing, treatment of water infiltration through polymer injection and repair of corroded steel, installation of a new drainage system and sealing of 430 meters of the gallery.
